Harry Potter’s latest hit is a return to the magic of the original books, as Harry and his friends are sent on a magical adventure that spans centuries and involves dragons, goblins, wizards and, of course, the most powerful wizard ever.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone has made $1.4 billion in worldwide box office sales and earned more than $3.5 billion in profits for Warner Bros., the studio behind the franchise.
The movie has become the highest-grossing film in the world since its December release.
Its worldwide box-office total is $8.8 billion.
Its $2.4 million budget will help pay for its production costs, and it also includes $750,000 in financing for Warner Brothers, Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and 20th Century Fox.
“We believe Harry Potter fans will be very satisfied with the new Harry Potter films, and they’re excited about the future of the franchise,” Warner Bros.-based studio president Kevin Tsujihara said in a statement.
“The film has generated a lot of excitement around the world, and we’re excited to see what fans do with it in the future.”
Actors Adam Driver and Katherine Waterston were joined by other notable celebrities for the premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival in July.
The event was also the site of the first-ever Harry Potter convention.
