The Army has a new weapon that has the potential to radically reshape the way we fight.
The U.S. Army has unveiled a new “anti-armor weapon,” which the Army says has a longer reach and more devastating capability than the conventional gun that it has been using in combat.
The new weapon, the Javelin, was unveiled Friday at the Army’s annual Soldier Education and Combat Course in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The weapon is the result of a partnership between the Army and the Department of Defense.
“It is an anti-armor, anti-tank, anti infantry weapon that is specifically designed to engage armor, making it more effective,” the Army said in a statement.
The Javeliner is the product of a four-year collaboration between the Pentagon and the Army, led by former Defense Department engineer James Dobbins.
The Army says the Japliner’s ability to deliver an accurate burst of energy, a new kind of kinetic energy, is unprecedented.
It’s “the most accurate and powerful kinetic energy weapon ever made,” according to the Army.
The weapon is a three-pound, 15-inch round, but the Army will be able to add a more powerful projectile with an estimated range of 400 meters (1,500 yards) before it goes into service, the Army wrote.
The Javeline will be used in both self-propelled and semi-propelling weapons.
It will be the Army first weapon to have an effective kinetic energy range that exceeds 600 meters.
“While the Japler is a powerful projectile, it is still a long way from being able to penetrate armor,” the military said in the statement.
“Javelin is designed to penetrate the armor of tanks, artillery, armored vehicles, helicopters and other highly maneuverable threats.”
It’s not clear if the Japerion, which is expected to cost around $20,000, will be ready for the military in the next few years.
However, the Pentagon says the weapon will be delivered in 2020, and is currently undergoing testing.
The latest weapon will likely be a follow-on to the Javert, which the military says is a more accurate, more powerful, longer-range, and less expensive alternative to the current Javelinator.
The new Japlinners could be used against enemy armor, the military wrote.
The Army says Japliners can penetrate armor with a minimum of effort.
It’s unclear how many weapons will be fielded.
However a Department of Homeland Security official told reporters the Army is currently developing six weapons to replace the current weapons.
The military is also working on a Japliter that can penetrate up to 50 meters (yards) of armor.
